True’s Own Inducted into PRNEWS Measurement Hall of Fame

We are thrilled to share that Sean Williams, True’s Vice President & practice lead, became the first internal communications specialist ever inducted into the PRNEWS Measurement Hall of Fame at the PR Measurement Conference in Washington, D.C. on April 18.

For the past nine years, PRNEWS has inducted leading lights of PR measurement into its Hall of Fame for their long-standing and continued efforts in advancing and championing PR measurement, for promoting the importance and awareness of key metrics within the PR community and for playing a role in the development of measurement standards.

“I am humbled and so honored to join the leaders in PR measurement in the Hall of Fame. These are the people who educated me, inspired me and helped me think over the years as I discovered my life's work – bringing internal communication measurement forward," said Williams. "There’s more to be done in measurement, given that ‘employee engagement’ is still seen as an outcome instead of a means to organizational impact! We are far ahead of where we were 15 years ago.”

Williams has made extensive contributions to the field over the past 20 years. He is a member of the Institute for Public Relations’ Commission on Measurement and Evaluation and the Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication. He has published three research papers analyzing the PR measurement program of a major financial company, internal communications and social media.

In 2008, Williams was named the co-winner of the International Public Relations Research Conference Jackson-Sharpe Award for PR research authored by an academic and a practitioner. He currently leads a project for the Institute for Public Relations on Internal Communication Measurement Standards, and in March of 2017 received a “Top Two Papers” award for his work at the International Public Relations Research Conference alongside his research team.

In addition to his work with clients at True, Williams is also an adjunct professor of Public Relations at Kent State University and has created graduate classes in PR Measurement/ROI and social media measurement for Kent and another university.

“This year’s class of Hall of Fame inductees embody the ideals we as PR professionals should strive for, championing the power of data and metrics in demonstrating PR’s value, and leading the way in measurement as the landscape evolves,” said Melissa Hoffmann, PRNEWS’ Content Director.

Fellow 2019 inductees to the PRNEWS Measurement Hall of Fame include:

  • Marcia DiStasio, Associate Professor, Chair of Public Relations Department, University of Florida
  • Corey duBrowa, VP, Global Communications and Public Affairs, Google
  • Gary Sheffer, Professor of Public Relations, Boston University and Weber Shandwick

"I thank PRNews and the hall of fame committee for this honor, and my wife, Sandy Williams, for all her love and support on this great adventure," said Williams.
